RHT Gizmos & Gadgets crush Skeldon to reach semis

A youthful Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadget (RHTG&G) team missing five if its senior players to national and Trinidad club duties crushed Skeldon Community Centre (SCC) by 126 runs to reach the semi-finals of the Ramcharitar/Berbice Cricket Board 40 overs first division tournament which bowled off on Saturday last with six matches.

RHTG&G, the defending Berbice 40 overs champion was joined by Edinburgh, Rose Hall Canje, Police, Scotsburg and Port Mourant in the winner’s row.

Last year 40 overs runner up Young Warriors were upset by Port Mourant whilst newcomers Edinburgh continued their impressive play, squeezing past West Berbice enjoying home advantage.

At the Area ‘H’ ground, RHTG&G batting first posted 180-7 off their allotted 37 overs with 17 year-old Clinton Pestano top scoring with 38 (7 fours), Jason Sinclair 31 (2 sixes) and skipper Eon Hooper 30.

Bowling for Skeldon, off spinner Wazeer Hussain took 2-26 and Pertab Narine 2-43. In reply, Skeldon were blasted away by former Berbice pacer Eon Gibson making a return to the game after five years. The 28 year-old pacer snared 6-22 as Skeldon fell for 54, extras contributing a healthy 23 as the visitors failed to handle the hostile Gibson and opening partner Clinton Pestano who took 2-27 along with off spinner Hooper 2-0. RHTG&G drew a second round bye and have advanced to the final four.

At the Albion ground, Rose Hall Canje outplayed Blairmont by 7 wickets. Batting first Blairmont amassed 179-8 off 36 overs, Ramesh Budram stroking 78 (8×4, 1×6) and Suresh Mohan 54 (4×4) the principal scorers.

Off spinners Sasenarine Sukhdeo 3-13 and Romesh Munna 3-49 were the main wicket takers for Canje who in reply rattled up 180-3 off 26 overs. Sukhdeo returned with the bat to blast 76 (6×4, 1×6), Vishal Mohabir 75 (11×4) and 17 year-old Videsh Singh 21* piloting their side to victory. Nedesh Basdeo, Mohan and N. Yusuf took a wicket each for Blairmont.

At the Scotsburg ground in Corriverton, the home team took care of Bermine by 6 wickets in a match reduced to 25 overs due to heavy rain.

Bermine were dismissed for 91 off 24.5 overs, Andrew Williams and Trison Bynoe scored 18 each. Clavern Beresford took 2-15 and former Essequibo left arm spinner Robert Moore 3-19. In reply Scotsburg coasted to 95-4 in 18 overs. National standby wicketkeeper Anthony Bramble hit an undefeated 45 and Michael Kendall 15. Off spinner Jamal LaFleur took 2-17 off 2 overs.

Making use of their home advantage, Edinburgh upset West Berbice by 3 wickets. West Berbice batting first scored posted a challenging 200-9 off the allotted 40 overs. Raffel Estraido 37, Trevon Adams 34 were the main contributors with the bat as off spinners Raid Ally 3-17 and Charles Shepherd 3-35 bowled well for the home team.

In response, Edinburg batted strongly to reach 176-7 off 34 as the target was reduced to 175 off 35 overs due to rain during lunch break. Shameer Khan 44, Denny David 33* and Robin Seebarran 37 combined efforts to see their team to victory. Ron Johnson with 3-27 off 7 overs was the best bowler for the losers.

Playing at the Kennard Memorial Cricket ground, Police arrested the host Kennard Memorial by 7 wickets. Kennard taking first strike reached 136 in 30.2 overs. The leading batters were Parmanand Seenanan (24) and Hemraj Mankarran (23). Rocky Hutson 3-22 and Karl Peters 2-25 were the best bowlers for the lawmen who in reply rattled up 137-3 off 30 overs with the Cyrus Gibson 52 and Jerry Heyliger 42* leading the way.

Last year’s runner up Young Warriors playing at home in Cumberland scored 201-9 in 40 overs with national Under-19 Seon Hetmeyer 67 (6×4, 1×6), Balram Samaroo 32 (2×4, 2×6) and the hard hitting Farouk Hussain 22, the main scorers.

Off spinner Rajendra Bolo who opened the bowling took 2-22 off 8 overs, Homchand Pooran 2-26 and Steven Latcha 2-49. Rain during the lunch break reduced Port Mourant’s target to 167 off 33 overs and led by the experienced duo of Moshin Perkhan and national player Homchand Pooran they reached 169-2 in 29.5 overs. Perkhan scored 79.

The tournament which is sponsored by contractor Anirud Ramcharitar of Friendship Village continues today with three second round matches.

Albion travels to Edinburg, Police play host Port Mourant while Rose Hall Canje will play home team Scotsburg.
