Dear Editor,
Once again, I feel the need to respond to your columnist Mr. Freddie Kissoon.
Anyone reading his articles of February 21, captioned: “Sorry to disappoint you on this one”, and that of Monday (21-02-10), “I did not and will not run away from my country.
The Three Musketeers”, would conclude that Mr. Kissoon is obviously a very confused an angry individual, who seem to think that the more ‘big words’ he uses, the more his ramblings become credible.
Although I have empathy for his early upbringing, I feel sure that a vast amount of Guyanese can relate to his childhood memories; for sadly, this is typical of the Guyanese culture.
What is amazing, however, is that Mr. Kissoon did not blame the Jagdeo Administration for his childhood misfortunes.
I feel sure that if he could have only found a way to do so, he would. I am no fan of the PPP/C, as I firmly believe that they have sadly missed out on an opportunity to restore the economy and Guyana’s leadership role in the region.
But no one can take this columnist seriously when he shows absolutely no objectivity in his articles: totally bias, radical views, always confrontational, lacks substance, and often petty and personal.
Everyday, Mr. Kissoon is given a platform to spew his anger in this medium, neglecting journalistic ethics and his moral responsibility as a journalist and to readers, to be more objective in his writings.
In my opinion, he has no moral grounds on which to criticise his colleagues that write for the Chronicle or anyone else.
It is this very ‘scorch earth’ campaign that has contributed to the lack of respect for elected officials, and the offices they hold.
This type of rhetoric creates hatred and division among our people, and should be discouraged.
And perhaps Mr. Kissoon would wish to consider whether the anger that comes out in what he writes, is not contributing to the government’s reluctance to issue licences that would create a more free press in Guyana. And if it is, he’s surely doing all Guyanese a disservice.
