Receiving a phone call thrice a week, especially from Suriname, was most comforting for the Williams family. However, an incoming call from Suriname last Tuesday, shortly after noon was not one that brought comfort. Instead, it was one that has brought enormous pain and shock.
Receiving that call that day was Desmond Williams, the estranged husband of the late Usha Williams, who died after the car in which she was traveling toppled over causing her to fall out.
Mrs. Williams, it was said, who occupied the front passenger seat was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.
Mr. Williams told Kaieteur News that he received a call from one of his daughters, Nafeeza, who said that she had received a message from her bother-in-law that Usha had died in a car accident on Tuesday last in Paramaribo, Suriname.
Mr. Williams said that he further learnt that Usha, who had purchased her car just three months ago, was returning from Paramaribo when she met her demise.
He said that he was informed that the car toppled over after coming into contact with mud, which was smeared on the Paramaribo road after some heavy showers.
He said the road on which they were driving on was reportedly very slippery. The driver he said escaped with minor injuries. The 43-year-old businesswoman who migrated to Suriname almost three years ago has left to mourn four daughters and a son.
Williams said he is making arrangements for the body to be brought to Guyana for burial on Wednesday at Maria’s Lodge. The woman, said to be an established businesswoman visited Guyana two weeks ago.
