Dear Editor,
A public consultation/discussion on “noise nuisance”, was hosted by the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) on Tuesday 16th, February in the town of New Amsterdam for the residents of Regions Five and Six; this was the second such consultation as another was previously held at the same venue.
While I applaud this venture, I must however voice my displeasure as to the fact that it was difficult for many residents from Region Five to attend (I am quite certain there was no representation from this region); because of the fact of transportation cost to get to the venue.
It would cost every resident who desired to participate at least $1,000 or more, round trip depending from where the person was embarking.
Here are a few questions I believe the relevant authority needs to answer, in all fairness to the residents of Region Five.
• Is this some sort of discrimination of the citizens of region Five?
• Why is it that GNBS did not hold a separate consultation for region Five?
• Why is it that this region always appears as if it is being sideswiped?
In closing I would like to add that, I am certain there are residents in Region Five who would welcome this kind of discussion/consultation as well as some other related topics – but only if it is brought to us and not vice-versa.
