Diamond Secondary School are the winners of the AL Sport & Tour Promotions sponsored Inter-School Windball Cricket Tournament after they defeated debutant Supply in the final by 26 runs last Friday at, the Grove Playfield.
Taking first strike, Diamond made 101-1 off the allotted overs with Latoya Jarvis 46, Eugene Trotman 32 and Shenella James 15, being the principal scorers.
In reply, Supply could only muster 75-5 when the overs expired. Adonla Mitchell made a top-score of 25, while Roseann Fernandes supported with 15.
In the other match played, Diamond eased past Grove Craft Centre by eight wickets.
Grove Craft Centre made 49-5 off the allotted 7 overs with Nekeisha Gray 14 and Rhonda Peters 12, the only players to reach double figures.
Diamond in their response reached 51-2. E. Trotman scored 25 not out.
According to a release from the Organisers Al Sport & Tour Promotions, the tournament is a new format that has been introduced in its effort to popularise the sport along the coastland and East bank Demerara the first such target area, while the plan is not designed for too many teams at one time.
Only three schools participated in last Friday’s activities.
