A lot of excitement is anticipated today when the Rising Sun Turf Club stages its grand annual one day horserace meet, at the club’s track on the West Coast of Berbice.
A massive $3million in cash and other prizes have been put up by the organisers for the event which has seven races planned, starting from 13:00 hrs.
Over 65 of the country’s top horses have been signed up to enter the starting gates for the prizes on offer and reports out of the various stables is that all the animals have looked good at practice and exciting races are anticipated.
The ‘C’ class event which is sponsored by Jumbo Jet Machinery and Auto Sales is once again the main attraction on the day’s card that wills see some of the best horses battle over a distance of 1600 metres.
The winner will take home $600,000.00 and the Jumbo Jet trophy.
Miss Orientate, Annie’s Play Mate, Irish Gel and Jumbo Joy headlines the cast for the match up which also includes the newly imported Home Bush Baby, World Class, Laura Lee in Flight and the ever improving Illogical.
The co-feature is the three year-old race for horses born and bred in Guyana and the West Indies and is sponsored by Digicel with the duel expected to be over 1300M.
This event carries a first prize of $250,000.
Zenyatta is favoured to continue the excellent form, but the likes of Celebration Time, Gabrielle Gold, Megan’s Choice and Miss Bounty are expected to offer stiff challenges.
The ‘F’ class event carries a first prize of $150,000 with the horses going over a distance of 1300M with entries such as Night Crescendo, Top of the Line, Debatable, Alphabet, The Gap, Romantic Passion, Sea Rocket and 18 Karat, all in the hunt for gold.
The ‘G’ class event has a star-studded line-up once again and as usual is one of those races expected to keep turfites on their toes.
The first prize is $120.000 and the distance will be over 1100M.
Those highlighting the entries are Pixie Fire, Gigli, Lady of My Dreams, Stylish Line, Over the Map and Finishing Touch.
The ‘I’ class showdown is another 1100M sprint and this one has a full gate and among the entries are De Gump, Red Bull, Power Master, Tiny 21 and Casino Royal, who will all be vying for the top prize of $100, 000.
The division 1&2 horses will compete for a top prize of $90,000 and among those looking for the bulls’ eye in their quest for victory in the 1300M match-up are Sunday Star, Bounty Flyer and Blessed Child.
The other event on the day’s programme is for Division 3 horses which will be run over 1100M and with the winner set to receive $80,000.
Some of those entered for the event are Gold Finder, Red Light and Sean Paul
Among the sponsors that have inked their names to the day’s activity are Beverage giant Banks DIH Limited, Digicel, Jumbo Jet Auto Sales and Machinery, Agri Parts and Machinery and Services, Chris Auto Sales and Spares and Chester Fry Chicken of Bush Lot West Coast Berbice.
Businessman Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall, Bourda Market will be presenting the individual prizes those will include the champion jockey champion trainer and champion stable trophies among others.
According to the organiser Inshanally Habibulla the track is in the best of condition and a scintillating and action packed day of racing is anticipated.
Owners as well as jockeys are being reminded that they must possess a valid GHRA licence on race date. Any contravention of the rules will see them or their animals being prohibited from participating.
