Grove Hi Tec maintain pole position
When the first-round of final-round matches in the 2009 Stag Beer sponsored East Bank Football Association (EBFA) division-one league were contested on Sunday at the Grove Play Field, Grove Hi Tec retained pole position following a 1-1 stalemate with debutants Yarrowkabra Football Club who continue to impress in their debut season.
Last Sunday’s opening match up also ended in a 1-1 tie between Kuru Kururu Warriors and Timehri Panthers.
Grove, hold a slim 2 points advantage at the top of the table with 20 followed by Timehri (18) 2 points back. The Warriors moved one point up to 13 while Yarrowkabra edged up to 12. All the teams have 2 games remaining. Grove had taken the lead against Yarrowkabra when John Matthews rocked the nets in the 9th minute but that advantage was cancelled out by the underdogs when Ryan Davidson hammered a well taken shot home in the 24th minute.
The home team tried their utmost to press for the winner but the visitors were rock solid in defence to earn an equal share of the spoils.
Timehri too, were surprised by the stout resistance they encountered from Warriors. The former took the lead through a Joseph Walker goal in the 36th minute. They enjoyed the advantage for quite some time but the Warriors were finally able to draw level in the 63rd minute compliments of a Hubert Adams effort.
A potentially explosive and decisive double header awaits fans come Sunday February 28.
Meanwhile, the EBFA will be conducting trials to select their Under-19 team for the Guyana Football Federation Inter-Association competition on Sunday at the Grove Field commencing at 10:00hrs.
Eligible players and coaches are asked to take note.
