– victim’s mother outraged
The mother of the Tutorial High School student who was recently stabbed and struck on the head says she is outraged that her son is now apparently being made a victim of the justice system.
Daphne Luke expressed this fear after learning that her son, 15-year-old Robert Daniels, and his attacker, are to be charged with wounding.
Kaieteur News understands that the students are scheduled to appear in court next week.
Ms. Luke said that she submitted a medical report to the police which showed that her son sustained stab wounds to the back and head injuries during the February 5 incident.
She alleged that the culprit admitted in separate statements to the police and school officials to having inflicted the injuries. She alleged that a relative of the other boy gave police a blank medical report.
Reliable sources said that the boy had “a few scratches.”
However, Ms. Luke said that when she visited the Alberttown Police Station yesterday, a police officer informed her that her son was also being charged.
A student had told Kaieteur News that Daniels was going up a stairway at around 14:00 hrs on February 5, when the suspect, who was on the stairs, began to taunt Daniels.
It is alleged that following an exchange of words, the accused drew an ice-pick and stabbed Daniels in the back. The student claimed that Daniels tried to escape but fell and his assailant stabbed him again.
Daniels’ attacker reportedly then struck him in the head with a piece of wood before fleeing.
Daniels was taken to the principal’s office before being admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
Ms. Luke also alleged that a female relative of the suspect had turned up at the GPHC to enquire of her son’s whereabouts. She claimed that the relative had attempted to conceal her face with a surgical mask.
In an interview with Kaieteur News, the mother of the accused student admitted that her son struck Daniels with a piece of wood.
However, she claimed that he had acted in self-defence.
The woman also alleged that the injuries on Daniels’ back were made by a nail which was embedded in the wood with which her son struck Daniels.
