The Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG) has announced that Youmun Nabi will be observed on February 27, next.
The CIOG stated that the Islamic month of Rabi- ul- Awwal in the Islamic Year 1431 A.H. will commence today. As a result, Youmun Nabi, the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad, will be celebrated next week Saturday.
Youmun Nabi is celebrated as a National Holiday in Guyana and Muslims from across the country will be visiting their Masjids to listen to lectures on the life of Prophet Muhammad and will partake in a day of togetherness.
The CIOG stated that the Prophet led by example and is the perfect role model for human beings. Prophet Muhammad’s teachings and actions are referred to as “The Sunnah” and this is the second source of guidance in Islam after the Holy Qur’an.
The President and Executives of the Central Islamic Organisation have invited all Masjids to organise Youmun Nabi functions and deliberate on the relevance of Prophet Muhammad’s message, similarities with other prophets like Jesus.
The CIOG encouraged the participation of all Guyanese in these celebrations and called for all to maintain the sanctity of all religious holidays in the country.
