Jamaica, led by a 8 wicket haul from spin bowler Tamar Lambert, defeated Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) by 29 runs to lift full points and stay in contention for championship honours when the two teams clashed on the final day of their fifth round encounter of the 2010 Regional 4 day cricket tournament at the Providence Stadium, yesterday afternoon.
Lambert, whose best figures before this match was 4-44 picked up from where he left off on the penultimate day with figures of 16-6-18-3 to end with remarkable figures of 31.1-9-42-8.
Combined Campuses and Colleges started the final day on 115-4, still needing another 91 runs to take full points with Floyd Reifer (25) going great guns along with Kyle Corbin, his overnight partner, also on 25.
Lambert started his onslaught with the wicket of Reifer, caught Dave Bernard with just a single added to his overnight total and the score on 118-5. Kevin McLean was Lambert’s next victim. He mistimed a well lofted delivery when on 9, and the ball cannoned into his pads. He looked up to see the dreaded finger of the umpire in the air.
Lambert then moved through the CCC top order removing Omar Phillips for a resilient 35 after he steered a ball into the waiting hands of Carlton Baugh behind the stumps.
Jamal Smith reached 24 before he was deceived by a quicker ball from Lambert and was comprehensively bowled. Kyle Corbin also put up a fight but eventually succumbed to the burly spinner after he had posted a top score of 38 for his team.
After that Lambert moved through the CCC lineup like a knife in hot butter.
He also accounted for the dismissals of Chadwick Walton (2), Kevin McLean (9), and Kavish Kantasingh. The CCC’s innings lasted 81.1 overs and ended moments before the lunch break.
