Joseph Barker was yesterday remanded to prison by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It was alleged that Barker, on February 11, last, had in his possession a .38 revolver without being the holder of a firearm licence.
He was also charged with being in possession of five rounds of .38 ammunition.
Barker pleaded not guilty to both charges. He is being represented by attorney at law Peter Hugh who did not make a bail application, but simply told the court that a short date should be set for the trial.
The prosecutor stated that bail should be denied and the accused be remanded to prison. Barker is expected to make another court appearance on May 19.
And 25-year-old clothes vendor, Blaze Bailey, was yesterday placed on $50,000 bail by Magistrate Octive-Hamilton.
He is accused of using a knife to rob Shondel Robins, of items worth $103,000. He was not required to plead.
Bailey was represented by attorney at law James Bond, who in a bail application, said that he really did not know why the police charged his client.
He explained that Robins in her statement did not name Bailey as the person who robbed her.
According to the lawyer, it was Robin’s boyfriend who suggested that his client was the perpetrator.
“She went home and told him what happened and she gave him a description of the person and her boyfriend said that it has to be my client,” Bond said.
The lawyer further noted that his client even has an alibi, but the police refused to verify it, and charged him.
Bond stated that his client has an unblemished record, and poses no flight risk. He added that Bailey would not interfere with any of the witnesses who are likely to be summoned.
The prosecution had no objection to bail and noted that bail should be substantial. The accused is expected to make another court appearance on March 8.
