The Bartica Football Association opened its 2010 season with an Under-15 League sponsored by the Hand in Hand Insurance group of companies.
The opening ceremony was held last Saturday at the Bartica Community Centre.
The six Teams that participated in the March past were, Rising Star, Lazio, Beacon United, Wolves United, Ballers Untied and River View.
Witnessing the ceremony was Mr. Reynolds Jones and Ms. Miranda Da Silva sales representative of Hand in Hand and Mr. Carlos Prowell Vice President of the Guyana Football Association & President of the Bartica Football Association.
Mr. Jones told the gathering that his company was proud to be the sponsor of the Under-15 competition and encouraged the kids to play hard and fair. He said the Hand in Hand Group of companies is committed to youth education and development through sport, and also that Hand in Hand will sponsor the BFA Under-15 competition in 2011.
The GFF Vice President, Prowell, reiterated that on field skill is only half of what is required to be a rounded football. Having good grades in school and pursing educational opportunities with the same on field enthusiasm will make better and all rounded players.
The Bartica 2010 football season was declared open by Mr. Prowell.
The action got underway after with a double header. Beacons defeat Wolves United 3 goals to 1, two goals coming from Delon Welch and one from Carl Spencer. Neil Martindale scored the lone goal for Wolves United. River View them defeated Rising Star 9 nil. Aloysius Edwards was on fire for the River View team scoring 5 goals, 2 coming from O’Neil Richardson, 1 from Ansell Edwards and the final goal by Alwin Williams.
