Dear Editor,
As a concerned group we would like to bring to your attention to a recurring problem that we have been facing for several months at Liliendaal, East Coast, Demerara.
The issue we wish to address is that, there is no water to flush the toilets for days on end which results in the breeding of worms. We usually spend eight to ten hours without being able to meet one of our basic human needs “The right to excrete”. For the rare occasions that we are privileged to have water, it is equivalent to that of the ocean’s water. Amazingly, it is a fact that the Ministry of Health Environmental Health Officers is housed in the same facility.
Millions are currently being spent to renovate the said facility. A number of females have been coming down with recurring urinary tract infections.
It is therefore of great urgency that the Ministry takes immediate action to remedy this dire situation.
Is this how the Ministry is promoting health?
