Left arm spinner Moin Khan grabbed 7 wickets and middle order batsman Shivindra Hemraj stroked a fine half century as play in the Guyana Cricket Board 50 overs U-15 cricket competition continued recently in Essequibo with three zone B games.
At the Wakenaam Community Centre ground, host Wakenaam defeated Bartica by 10 wickets. The visitors batted first and were routed for 65 in 16 overs.
Rickford Baptiste top scored with 16 as Moin Khan, who plays for Sans Souci Jaguars Sports Club, grabbed 7-7 off 3.4 overs, while national U-15 player Ricardo Adams took 2-7 off 4 overs and Tamesh Charritar 1-5. Wakenaam in reply knocked off the required target in 8 overs ending on 67 without loss. Rashaad Rasheed led with 38 while Adams made 29.
At Dennison Park in Leguan, the home team got the better of Bartica by 88 runs. Leguan took first strike and managed 185 all out in 38 overs.
Shivindra Hemraj made 89 (6×4, 4×6) and Paul Williams assisted with 39. Kean Harry bagged 4-23 while Antonio Balgobin and Gregory Mentore picked up two wickets each.
Bartica in their turn at the crease could only muster 97 in 32 overs. Rockel Reddy made 21 as Paul Williams and Paul Simbu snared 3 wickets a piece for the winners.
And at East Bank Essequibo, the host overcame Bartica by 97 runs. East Bank batted first and scored 146-6 after the game was reduced to 30 overs due to rain.
Mark Gonsalves with 48, Julio Jones 34 and Kimol Savory 20 were their principal scorers as Oliver Mentis and Kishan Tobin grabbed two wickets for Bartica who were skittled out for 49 in 14.2 overs. Leg spinner Savory bagged 5-15 while Jones took 2-4 for the host.
Zone B winners Wakenaam will now clash with zone A , champions South Essequibo in what is expected to be an exiting final. The date is yet to be confirmed by the Essequibo Cricket Board.
