Ryan Austin registered a five wicket haul for Combined Campuses and Colleges to restrict Jamaica to 194-9 when stumps were drawn yesterday in the 5th round of the 2010 Regional 4 day cricket tournament continued at the Providence Stadium, yesterday evening.
All told Austin sent down 37 overs, 12 of them maidens. He conceded 53 runs and snared 5 wickets.
Austin received support from Ryan Austin who bowled 33 overs, 12 maidens and took 3 wickets for 33 runs. Kevin McClean took one wicket for 21 runs after bowling 6 overs.
Jamaica called correctly and elected to take first strike on a track that offered some spin and bounce. Brendon Parchment opened the batting with Danza Hyatt and lashed two lofty boundaries before he was sent back, LBW to Kevin McClean (15-1).
Donovan Pagan then joined Hyatt and the two employed some sensible batting to push the total to 151. Hyatt (67) was then trapped LBW by Ryan Austin on the stroke of tea for a well played half century. He faced 192 balls and lashed 8 fours.
In the meantime, Pagan had taken his score to 80 decorated with 10 fours. He faced 205 balls before he was out caught by the wicketkeeper off the bowling of Kavish Kantasingh. Nkrumah Bonner joined Tamar Lambert, faced 6 balls and was sent back without scoring, LBW to Ryan Austin with the score on 168-4.
Wicketkeeper of the regional side, Carlton Baugh and Tamar Lambert then pushed the total to 175 before Lambert attempted a drive off Ryan Austin but only got as far as short leg where Omar Phillips scooped up a low catch (175-5). Dave Bernard joined Baugh but did not last long. He contributed 3 before he was caught Ottley, bowled Austin.
Baugh then attempted an audacious drive off Kavish Kantasingh and was clean bowled and from a comfortable position of 151-1 Jamaica were tottering at 193-7. Baugh scored 18 from 42 deliveries including 2 fours.
One run later, Bevon Brown was sent back after Gavin Wallace snapped him up on the boundary line. Odeen Brown then departed without troubling the scorers after he was bowled by Kantasingh shortly before stumps were drawn. Jason Daw and Andrew Richardson were the two batsmen at the crease, both still to register a run. The match continues this afternoon.
