-Indiscipline contributes to violence at School
Officials at Lodge Community High School are calling on the police to intervene in the wake of a second stabbing at the school yesterday.
Rawle King, 13, of 2504 Hosanna, North Ruimveldt, was stabbed in the temple at the Lodge Community High School and was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
According to Jamal Scipio, a fifth form student at Lodge Community High, Rawle and another student were gambling at the back of the school when Rawle was threatened with a pair of scissors by another student. At the centre was a $20 debt.
He said that Rawle was stabbed in the temple and as the blood was gushing out, the stabber then became afraid and ran away.
At the school yesterday, students were running frantically around during school hours.
One student said that the children would normally behave disrespectful and unmannerly. They have no respect for their teachers and are not interested in attending the various classes.
“Some of the children often cuss the teachers and walk away when the teacher does talk to them,” one student said.
A young lady showed that her face was slashed with a knife by a parent in the school. The parent was reportedly angered by the actions of the young lady toward her child.
According to a senior teacher, Martin DeSouza, for the pass few days many students have been involved in many fights.
And the first and second form students are the ones who are behaving delinquently and are rebellious to the detriment of themselves and others.
He explained that one of the problems is the lack of care shown by parents when the parent-teachers association (PTA) is called for meetings.
Some 600 children attend the school and only 25 parents would turn up. Many have no idea of what their children are doing, and seem uninterested.
Another student said that some parents would come at the school and behave bad and even want to fight whenever they receive complaints of their child’s behaviour.
Martin DeSouza said that there was an incident where the female guard was gun-butted by a male that was refused entrance to the school compound.
It was revealed that a teacher sustained a blow to the head when a student in the school compound hurled a missile at him. The blow split his skull.
He further said that a time has come now that there is need for a police presence within the school’s compound to maintain discipline and order.
Another security guard is needed since many holes are in the fences and the guard cannot secure the gate and be around the compound at the same time. The Headmistress was asked to comment but declined.
