Some of the nation’s top racehorses would be vying for honours when the Kennard Memorial Turf Club stages a Phagwah Day Horserace Meeting at the club’s Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne Berbice headquarters on Sunday March 7.
Jockeys would compete for prizes totaling in excess of $1.5M with the feature attraction being the ‘C and Lower class event over a distance of one mile.
The winner carts off four hundred thousand dollars with the second place finisher collecting half that amount. The third and fourth places receive one hundred thousand and fifty thousand dollars, respectively.
The excitement continues with the F and Lower Class race over 6 furlongs. The winner takes home a handy sum of $220,000 and the second place, two hundred thousand dollars.
The third and fourth places receive$55,000 and $27,500, respectively. Several other races are expected to whet the appetites of turfites including the I3 and Lower class event over 6 furlongs, the K and L Division 2 and 3 over 6 furlongs and the G and Lower Class over 7 furlongs. Activities culminate with the ‘I and Lower Class’ event over 7 furlongs.
In this race the winner carts off$140,000 while the jockey coming in second receives $70,000. The third and fourth place finishers win $35,000 and $18,000 respectively.
Meanwhile, horse owners are reminded that all activities would be conducted under the aegis of the Guyana Horse Racing Authorities and there would be strict adherence to the rules.
The owners of horses are required to pay $3,000 per horse at the time of registration.
