Grove Hi Tec took pole position going into round two of the Stag Beer sponsored East Bank Football Association (EBFA) with an emphatic 6-0 whipping of Kuru Kururu Lions in the final first round game contested at the Grove Community ground, yesterday afternoon.
The home team controlled the game at will and had the Warriors caged for the duration of the encounter as they ended the round unbeaten with 19 points from their 7 matches, 6 wins and one draw. Despite the loss, Kuru Kururu Warriors still made it through to the next round with 12 points from their quota of matches, finishing 3rd overall.
The other team advancing to the group of four is Timehri Panthers, they ended 2nd overall with 17 points with debutants Yarrowkabra FC taking the 4th and final spot one point behind the Warriors.
The rampant Grove netted three goals in each half as they continued their dominance of the game on the East Bank.
John Matthews opened the scoring three minutes into the game as the host team signaled their intentions of being in a no nonsense mood early.
Quacy Tinnie reinforced that thinking with a double of his own in the 16th and 32nd minute. The second half saw Grove maintaining the intensity and were rewarded with three more goals. Dominic Garnett added his name to the score sheets in the 78th and 87th minute, Teshawn Blackman inking his name in the 84th.
The final four playoffs is set to get cracking this weekend and will see all the teams (Grove, Timehri, Warriors &Yarrowkabra) playing each other. The team emerging with the most points will be crowned 2009 Stag Beer/EBFA division one champions.
