– mother alleges attacker’s relative checking hospital for son
A 15-year-old schoolboy was hospitalised on Friday after being stabbed with an ice pick and struck on the head by another teen during a fracas at the Tutorial High School. Robert Daniels, of Plaisance, East Coast Demerara, remained in the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation yesterday.
The victim’s mother, Daphne Luke, yesterday expressed fear for the boy’s safety after alleging that a female relative of the attacker has been checking at the institution for her son.
Kaieteur News understands that the student who attacked Daniels was questioned by police but was subsequently released.
A student who said he witnessed the attack, alleged that the incident stemmed from another altercation that a friend of the attacker had with a cousin of the victim.
The student said that he and Daniels were going up a stairway around 14:00 hrs on Friday when the suspect, who was on the stairs, began to taunt Daniels.
The student allegedly then withdrew an ice pick and stabbed Daniels in the back. He said that Daniels tried to escape but fell and his assailant stabbed him again.
He alleged that Daniels’ attacker then struck him in the head with a piece of wood before fleeing.
Daniels was taken to the principal’s office before being admitted to the GPHC.
A tearful Daphne Luke alleged that while she was at the hospital on Friday night, a woman who was wearing a surgical mask came to the ward to inquire about her son.
Ms. Luke said that the woman eventually approached her and spoke briefly before leaving the ward.
Ms. Luke said that she informed a rank at the GPHC Police Outpost and also reported the matter at the Alberttown Police Station.
