Hot Steppers XI registered a close 1 wicket upset over Mike Photocopy Centre XI when play in the Carib Beer National Softball Cricket tournament continued on Monday February 1.
Mike’s Photocopy Centre XI won the toss and elected to bat amassing 165-8 in their allotted 15 overs. Suraj Boodhoo lashed an enterprising 45 to take the batting honours while Oram Porter took 3-24 from 3 overs for the opposition. Raj Premraj (3-24 from 3 overs) then contrived to restrict Hot Steppers XI to 168-9 in 14.5 overs. Mark Fung (45) top scored for the losers.
Mike Photocopy Centre XI returned later in the day and avenged that loss with a 129 runs victory over Harry XI. Mike Photocopy Centre XI were inserted after losing the toss. They notched up a challenging total of 227 all out in 15 overs. Suraj Boodhoo (67) was the pick of the batsmen. In reply Harry XI were routed out for a paltry 98 12.4 overs. Masood Khan (2-15 from 3 overs) was the chief wicket taker.
In another match, Hanzo XI defeated Desperado XI by 73 runs. Hanzo XI batted first and scored 192 all out in 15 overs with Hassan Bacchus (53) top scoring. In reply Desperado XI were bowled out for 119 in 12 overs.
In matches played in the GEORGETOWN ZONE, at the Eve Leary Ground, Mafia XI defeated Brush XI by 2 wickets. Brush XI batted first and were dismissed for 88. Mafia XI then knocked off the required total (89-8) in 8 overs. Ganshan Haridal (27) was the top scorer.
In the EAST BANK ZONE, also on the Eve Leary Ground, Farm Masjid XI handed Rapid Fire XI a 22 runs defeat after the former team had amassed 160 all out in 15 overs. Vivian Bissoon (79) took the batting honours for the winners. In reply, Rapid Fire could only post 138-8 in 15 overs.
Later in the day, Farm Masjid XI, playing their second match, won from Kings XI by 6 wickets. Kings XI batted first and scored 139 all out 14.5 overs after Avesar Azim had lashed a top score of 37. In reply Farm Masjid XI cantered to victory, scoring 140-4 in 14.4 overs. Vivian Bissoon scored an unbeaten half century (66) to take the batting honours.
In matches played at the Carifesta Sports Complex Ground, Speed Boat XI defeated Grove Hi- tech XI by 9 wickets. Grove Hi Tech called correctly and elected to bat. Navendra Kooblall (3-17 from 3 overs) helped to restrict Grove Hi- tech XI to 104 all out in 15 overs. Speed Boat XI then cruised to 105-1 in 8.5 overs. Ravi Narine (32) lashed the most runs.
Diamond Superstars embarrassed Rapid Fire XI by 8 wickets after Rapid Fire made 95 all out in 13.2 overs. In reply Diamond Superstars made 96-2 in 12 overs. Samuel McKoy registered a half century (68).
The action simmered somewhat when Uitvlugt Youths “A” CC gained a walkover from Surprise Warriors. Wolf’s Warriors then defeated Parika / Hydronie SC by 83 runs to close the day’s activities on a high.
