10 events listed for the day; Holder to defend feature 30-lap race
By Franklin Wilson
Local cyclists are set for a bumper weekend of racing this Saturday and Sunday as the new season heats up.
Just yesterday, Cell Smart/Digicel announced a lucrative Valentine’s Day 20-lap meet to be contested on the outer circuit of the National Park on Sunday but this would be preceded by the 4th George Cumberbatch Memorial meet at the Inner Circuit of the National Park and sponsored by George Humphrey of Humphrey’s Bakery & Farm Products and Clifford Johnson.
Last year’s event saw some exciting races but riders are promising to make this year’s event even more exciting boasting that they are much fitter and better prepared.
The feature 30-lap clash will see all the top guns in the reckoning for the attractive cash incentives that will be up for grabs. Defending champion Christopher Holder will be hard pressed to retain the top spot and will face stiff competition from seasoned campaigners Alonzo Greaves, Robin Persaud,
Warren ‘Forty’ Mc Kay, Albert Philander, Lear Nunes, Tony Simon, Junior Niles, Walter Grant-Stuart, Geron Williams, Darren Allen and Chris Persaud among others.
The full race schedule is as follows:
1) 7-11yrs BMX – 2 laps
2) 12-14 yrs BMX – 3 laps
3) Open BMX – 3 laps
4) Mountain Bike/Upright (open) 10 laps (3 sprint prizes)
5) Vets Under 50yrs – 6 laps
6) Vets over 50yrs – 6 laps
7) Category 1 & 2 – 10 laps
8) Category 3 & 4 – 10 laps
