BK Western Tigers, Bakewell Topp XX, Pele & Alpha to collide
As Guyanese throughout the length and breadth of this land continues to contribute towards the rebuilding process in the Earthquake ravaged Haiti, the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation (KSO) are combining efforts to raise funds for the rebuilding of the Haitian Football Federation (HFF).
GFF President Colin Klass at yesterday’s press briefing noted that after brief deliberations with the KSO they agreed that they must make their contribution towards the rebuilding of the HFF based on the losses they suffered.
To date it has been reported that some 30 persons directly related to the HFF died as a result of the earthquake while the HFF President John Bart was injured and is on the road to recovery.
FIFA has already committed to assisting the HFF in the rebuilding process while CONCACAF President Jack Warner recently returned from a visit to Haiti. CFU Vice President, Jamaican Capt. Horace Burrell was the first high ranking football official to visit Haiti after the disaster.
The double header card is set for February 21st at the GCC ground and is expected to be exciting and entertaining for the fans.
Klass noted that the GFF is aiming to make a presentation to the HFF at the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Congress set for Trinidad and Tobago from February 24-28.
Kashif Muhammad informed that his organisation was extremely happy to be collaborating with the GFF on this humanitarian venture. “We are tremendously happy to be teaming up with the GFF once again especially on this venture in trying to raise much needed funds for our brothers and sisters in Haiti specifically the football fraternity.”
Game one will see five-time Kashif and Shanghai Kings Bakewell Topp XX taking on Pele with the main event pitting current K&S Kings BK International Western Tigers against arch rivals Alpha United in a repeat of the 2009/2010 K&S final which the latter lost 2-0.
Muhammad said it was extremely nice to see the teams volunteering their services towards the cause. He also noted that a number of other teams wanted to be a part of the event but it was not possible since it was two games on the cards.
It was also reported by Muhammad that GCC has agreed to give the venue free of cost and he is looking forward to other stake holders following GCC’s lead.
“We really appreciate the spirit displayed by GCC and hope that other persons who surrounds football and who we, the GFF and KSO, usually do business with throughout the year to come on board this time around and give us the assistance in making this event a huge success.
We are asking everybody to make that effort, we are asking the public to come out in great numbers and give us the support because we would like a tangible amount of money to be handed over directly to the HFF.”
It was also noted that any monies collected from the corporate community will go directly towards the cause with the admission fee set at $500 dollars.
Kick off time on game day, February 21 is 18:00hrs.
