…plans to pollinate Guyana on Mash Day
The Mashramani spirit is definitely in the air at Digicel Guyana and from the look of the costumes being constructed by designer Olympia Sonaram, the band will be one to watch on Mash Day.
It aims to take home all the major prizes in the large band category on February 23, company’s Public Relations and events manager, Shonette Moore, said. She added that the soft launch was designed to remove all doubts about the company’s involvement in Mashramani 2010.
“The idea is to spread the word just the way the Humming Birds and the bees pollinate flowers to create the beautiful garden city, that is the same way that Digicel is spreading its wings in Guyana to offer cellular customers a better service,” the costumes designer said.
While the company did not let the secret out of the bag as to how much they are spending, Moore said that it will spare no expense to ensure that it contributes to the cultural and festive unfolding as part of the nation’s 40th Republic anniversary celebrations.
“We have been participating in the Mashramani activities since we came to Guyana and had planned to do so last year but time constraints saw us taking a rest but we are back and with a bang this year because we are here to meet the Guyanese people at all levels,” said head of marketing, Jacqueline James.
The costume construction is on going in the parking lot of the company’s Barrack Street Kingston Building and should be completed long before Mash Day.
Moore said that the costumes are available at no cost to persons who seek to identify with the Digicel brand but hastened to inform that there are only limited amounts available.
The company, aside from having more than 100 revellers in full costumes on the road, will not be having any T-shirt contingents but will also be presenting two individual floats that depict pollination of the Hibiscus flower by humming birds and honey bees.
James said that persons desirous of being part of the band on Mash Day can join their Mash fit workout programme staged at the Demerara Cricket Club every Monday through Thursday after work to prepare for the long haul on February 23.
