The 2010 season of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) will be launched tomorrow at the Edinburgh Community Centre ground, East Bank Berbice with the annual season opening game featuring West Berbice/East Bank/New Amsterdam/Canje taking on Lower/Upper Corentyne.
The teams consisting of the County’s leading players would be clashing for the John Trim Tribute trophy which forms part of the BCB’s ‘Tribute to Heroes Programme’.
This is the first time that the area would be hosting such a high profile game as the Berbice Cricket Board seeks to promote the game in rural areas.
Leading West Berbice/East Bank/New Amsterdam/Canje is Senior Berbice opening batsman Richard Ramdeen with another Berbice opener Artley Bailey being his deputy.
Others in the line-up are Waheid Edwards, Seon Hetmyer, Raid Ally, Keith Fraser, Kwesi Mentore and Andrew Williams. National pacer Brendon Bess leads the bowling attack which also includes pacer Michael Newland, offspinner Andrew Williams, Krisendat Ramoo and left arm spinner Richard Ramdeen.
Lower/Upper Corentyne challenge will be led by national middle order batsman Assad Fudadin with Royston Crandon as his deputy. Vital support in the batting department comes from national opener Sewnarine Chattergoon, Alex Amsterdam, Eon Hooper, Anthony Bramble and Jason Sinclair.
National all-rounder Esaun Crandon will be at the helm of the bowling and shares the new ball with Yougendra Harrinarine while the spinning department would be in the capable hands of Veerasammy Permaul, Devendra Bishu, Steven Latcha, Troy Mathieson and Orvin Mangru.
The 40 over affair is set to bowl off at 11.00hrs. BCB Public Relations Officer Hilbert Foster said that the Board has decided that each year they will put up a trophy bearing the name of a former Test great for the season opener commencing this season with John Trim.
