Sweep junior tournaments in Ancient County
Over the past five years, the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club (RHTY&SC) has concentrated a great deal of its energies on youth investment which it believes is the key to its cricket development.
The club has invested millions of dollars to ensure that all of its young cricketers not only develop their skills on the field but also become positive role models to their peers by practicing the values of self discipline, hard work, honesty and commitment.
The successful captains pose with their silverware and management staff. From left, Simon Boodhoo, Loyyden Leiws (U-15), Dominic Rickey (U-17), Patrick Lewis – Manager, Shemaine Campbell (female), Eon Hooper (U-19 & 23) and Munesh Singh – Coach.
The years of investment have started to produce positive results with the club winning all the junior cricket tournaments organised by the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) in the 2009 season. The Farfan & Mendes Under-15 team won the Tenelec tournament, Bakewell Under-17 lifted the top trophy in the Leslie Amsterdam Memorial competition, DDL/Pepsi Under-19’s emerged as the best team in the Spready’s Under-19 Cup while the Gizmos & Gadgets Under-23 side was victorious in the Peter Lewis Associated Construction Services Under-23 championship.
In addition, the Metro Female team won the National Female tournament two weeks ago while the seniors claimed the 2009 Busta Champion of Champions; ABS 40 overs and the Berbice Neal & Massy titles.
RHTY&SC was the runners-up team in the Berbice Tenelec Inc. 50 overs and the national Neal & Massy tournaments.
RHTY&SC’s outstanding performances were recognised by the Guyana Cricket Board when they were named Club of the year for 2009 by the Board.
The management and members of the club said they are very proud of their status as the number one cricket club in Guyana; the results of hard work, visionary leadership, forward planning and millions of dollars worth of investment into the development of their young cricketers the likes of Eon Hooper, Terrence Madramootoo, Dominic Rickey, Shemaine Campbell, Shawn Perreira, Loyyden Lewis and Troy Mathieson.
“The importance of youth in our successes cannot be over estimated as we strongly believe that they are our future along with the established players like the Crandon brothers, Assad Fudadin and Delbert Hicks. It is our aim to remain the best in the future. Our cricket membership currently stands at 153 with the oldest player being 30 years old while 90% of the players are below the age of 18.”
RHTY&SC said they would like to share their successes on the cricket field with all their official sponsors who have invested a great deal. “Our successes would not have been possible without their support and we owe it all to them as they are simply the foundations to all our accomplishments.”
“To the management of Bakewell, Farfan & Mendes, DDL/Pepsi, Metro Office and Computer Supplies and Gizmos & Gadgets we express our profound gratitude and share our successes with you. It is our hope that the relationship we share would grow from strength to strength in the future.”
The club recognised the support of Windies Sports Bar and Courts (Guy) Inc. for their investment in the past.
Gratitude was also offered to all the club’s supporters and the media, especially the Kaieteur News, Guyana Chronicle, Guyana Times, Stabroek News, NCN, DTV-8, LRTVS CH 10 and VCT 28.
