Elton ‘Coolie Bully’ Dharry is fuming over what he has described as a blatant low blow delivered by local bantamweight boxer, Orland ‘Pocket Rocket’ Rogers and has since issued a challenge to the diminutive bantamweight contender to put his ‘Johnny Hancock’ on the dotted lines and back his chat.
Dharry spoke with Kaieteur Sport yesterday morning from his New York base after reading an article appearing in last Monday’s edition of this newspaper headlined ‘Pocket Rocket promises vengeance in tonight’s contest.’ Rogers had vowed to avenge an earlier loss at the hands of Dharry and had even claimed that he was ‘done in’ in their last encounter. “The last time the referee had unceremoniously stopped the fight when I was leading and that really upset me,” the article quoted Rogers as having said. He further claimed that ‘The Coolie Bully’ had always found an excuse not to step in the ‘square jungle’ against him.
Dharry dismissed Rogers’ claims as hogwash and boasted, “I have beaten him once and will beat him again if he steps in the same ring with me.” He further explained that Holland had contacted him requesting the fight with Rogers. “I was prepared to don gloves but negotiations just fell through,” a clearly agitated Dharry pronounced. He is calling on any local promoter to arrange the fight so that all doubts could be removed as to who is the better boxer.
Dharry operates out of the Jackie Gleason’s Gym, Front Road Brooklyn. He confided that he is currently being trained by former lightweight boxer, Dillon Carew.
Dharry said that at the moment he is concentrating on improving on his speed and sharpening his techniques. “Whenever Rogers gathers the nerves and whenever the promoters want me, I am just a phone call away,” Dharry said.
