Auditor General Deodat Sharma, in an announcement that was welcomed by the Shadow Finance Minister Winston Murray, on Monday told the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) that he will be commencing a Value for Money audit for items procured by the Government.
Sharma made the statement during a probe of his report by the PAC as it relates to the Ministry of Finance and comments by Murray on the issue of whether the nation was really receiving value for money expended.
The issue of value for money has been a sore topic for many, especially the Opposition parties, who have always questioned what they call the lack of transparency as well as the presence of corruption.
Over the past year, several items procured by Government agencies were repeatedly questioned by this newspaper and other media entities.
