Carmel Sobers scored an unbeaten century (108) to help her team, Saddam XI, inflict a 4 wickets defeat to Mahaica Masters when the two teams met in the Masters’ Cup and Females Softball cricket tournament on Friday January 15 last.
Mahaica Masters XI won the toss and batted scoring 228 all out in 22 overs. Saddam then lashed off the required total (229-6) in 21.5 overs.
The tournament continued on Sunday 17 when Max Masters defeated Enterprise XI by 59 runs. The winners batted first and scored 238-7 all out in 25 overs. Rudy Rodrigues 51 and Vinod Lall 42 were the best batsmen. In reply Enterprise X1 was restricted to 179-8 when their overs ran out.
Shattaville XI then mauled Parika/ Hydronie SC XI by a massive 209 runs after winning the toss and amassing 302-2 in 25 overs. Ramkumar Sankar (3-15 from 5 overs) then contrived to restrict Parika/ Hydronie SC to 93 all out in 18.2 overs.
In matches played in Berbice in the female category, Heavenly Angels defeated Crabwood Creek by 5 wickets. Crabwood Creek batted first and scored 44 -8 in 15 overs. In reply, Heavenly Angels made 45-5 in 8 overs. Heavenly Angels registered a second win later in the day against # 70 Females. The latter team batted first and scored 99-9 in 15 overs. Keisha Sooklall lashed a resilient 49 to take the batting honours. In reply Heavenly Angels made 100-1 in 9 overs after Roshanna Tyndall (42) topped the batting averages with support from Orva Giddings (30 not out)
Country wide champions # 68 All Stars then defeated Crabwood Creek by 5 wickets.
The former team made 110-7 in 15 overs. In reply # 68 All Stars made 112-5 in 12.3 overs. Melanie Henry (37) was the best batter.
In another match played that day Leeds # 51 defeated Skyliners XI after the former team batted first and scored 128-7 in 15 overs. Asonie Drepaul (4-6 from 3 overs) then masterminded Skyliners XI defeat. They were restricted to 56 all out in 10 overs. Crabwood Creek, playing in their final match got the better of Skyliners XI by 33 runs.
Crabwood Creek XI batted first and scored 122 all out in 12 overs Skyliners XI was then bowled out for 89 in 14 overs.
