Guyana Defence Force Officer Lieutenant Colonel, Patrick West, has become Guyana’s first officer to have earned two masters degrees simultaneously; one in Military Arts and Science and the other in Administration.
He recently returned from the US where he attended the United States Army Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth , Kansas and the Central Michigan University, through the bilateral co-operation agreement between the GDF and the US Military .
The institution educates and develops leaders for full spectrum , joint , interagency and multinational operations , acts as a lead agent for the army’s leader development programme and advances the art and science of the profession of arms in support of Army operational requirements.
Lt. Col. West recorded phenomenal performance in all his assigned duties and was also lauded for his immeasurable contribution to the success and professional development of the Army ,Air Force and International Military students last year, while taking advantage of every opportunity to enhance his own professional development .
The officer said that he experienced many challenges during his year of study, particularly since he was forced to carry extra credits to reach his target. “ Many times it was extremely difficult for me. I had little rest and at one stage I felt I could not make it. But I persevered.”
“I am a servant of the state and my intention is to serve to the best of my ability and for the best of my country,” he emphasised.
The Chief of Staff on behalf of officers and other ranks extend congratulations to Colonel West for a job well done.
Lieutenant Colonel West is currently the Staff Officer General One, Special Duties to the Chief Of Staff at Defence headquarters and is the 12th GDF officer to have graduated from the US Army Command and General Staff College.
