The Indian Arrival Committee (IAC) is calling upon all Guyanese, on the occasion of the second anniversary of the Lusignan and Bartica Massacres, to remember those persons whose lives the Committee said “were mercilessly cut short by a politically-driven band of evil murderers.”
The Committee said it is also in remembrance of those Guyanese who were beaten and traumatized on January 12, 2008. The organization recognizes that the victims were from Hindu, Muslim and Christian backgrounds.
The IAC is also calling on the citizens of Guyana to remember the victims of the Massacre and other atrocities of that type that occurred. The organization hopes that the families, relatives and friends of all the victims may have found peace and healing after having experienced such traumatic losses.
The Committee said it is pleased with the efforts of the Joint Services subsequent to these atrocities and is grateful to those ranks of the Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Defence Force for bringing many of those killers to justice and for apprehending a large number of their accomplices.
The organization is calling upon the citizens of Guyana to recognize that their continued economic well-being must have the foundation of security for without it they will continue to live in fear and anxiety. The IAC is calling upon the citizens to be constantly vigilant, especially in their own neighbourhoods and, if possible, become involved with Policing Groups in their communities.
The IAC’s Night of Reflection will be held on Wednesday at the Lusignan Tarmac, East Coast Demerara, from 18:30 hrs.
The IAC is urging people of all religious backgrounds from Lusignan and surrounding villages to come out and remember those persons whose lives were so brutally ended.
