Floodlight XI defeated Industry Super Kings by 4 wickets and remained unbeaten when the Masters’ Cup and Females Softball cricket tournament continued under floodlights at the Bourda Ground recently.
The match, played in the Georgetown zone of the competition, saw Floodlight XI winning the toss and inserting Industry Super Kings. The latter team compiled 127 all out in 23 overs. Sheik Mohamed (55) scored the most runs while Imtiaz Mohamed (4-20 from 5 overs) topped the bowling averages for the eventual winners. Floodlights XI then lashed off the required total (128-6) in 20 overs. Derek Ramotar (28) was the top batsman.
In matches played on Saturday January 16, Savage XI defeated Lall XI by 5 wickets after the latter team won the toss and batted, scoring 146 all out in 20 overs. Shafeek Mohamed (33) was the best batsman on show. In reply Savage XI, led by a resilient knock from Wallack Joseph (60) with support from Falim Mohamed (24) made 148-5 in 16 overs.
On Sunday 17, countrywide champions, Trophy Stall Masters, defeated Saddam XI by 9 wickets. Saddam XI batted first and led by a sterling effort from Carmel Sobers (45) amassed 116 all out in 23 overs. In the end the total proved inadequate as Trophy Stall Masters racked up 117-1 in their allotted 15 overs. Vinod Lall lashed an unbeaten 49 to take the batting honours. He received support from Dennis Mangroo (48). In the other result, Everest CC defeated Enterprise XI by 66 runs.
The matches in the female category were also action packed with Kitty All Stars eking past Gaza Youths by 2 runs in their Georgetown zone match. Kitty All Stars batted first and scored 152-1 in 15 overs. Tracy Glasgow remained unbeaten on 86 with support from Chandranie Madhoo (22 not out). Marlin Goodluck (1-13 from 3 overs) then restricted Gaza Youths to 150-5 in their 15 overs. Alissa Azad scored 47 but her knock eventually proved to be inadequate. The action simmered somewhat when Uitvlugt Girls got a walkover from Ruimzeight Angels.
In the Berbice zone, Heavenly Angels defeated Leeds # 51 by 72 runs. The former team batted first and racked up 194-5 in 15 overs on the back of enterprising half centuries from Shermaine Campbell (52) and Sabrina Ramrati (53). Orva Giddings contributed 34. In reply Leeds # 51, despite a solid knock of 37 by Abigail John, could only amass 122 when their 15 overs expired.
Crabwood Creek then defeated # 69 by 20 runs while Country wide champions, # 68 defeated Skyliners by 9 runs. Number 68 batted first and scored 143-4 in 15 overs before restricting Skyliners to 134 -9 in their 15 overs.
