Young Warriors, Albion, Bermine & RHT Gizmos & Gadgets to contest
The semi-final line up for the inaugural Peter Lewis/ACS Under-23 tournament organised by the Berbice Cricket Board has been completed with Albion, Bermine and Young Warriors recording victories to join Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets.
At the Edinburgh Community Centre, Young Warriors defeated Edinburgh by 30 runs after batting first and were bowled out for a challenging 273 in 43.3 overs. Berbice opener Richard Ramdeen led with 61 with good support from Seon Hetmyer 46, Daryl Narine 36 and Reaz Kassim 31.
Zaheer Hussain 3-77, Yudranauth Seepersaud 2-35 and Harrinarine Yadram 2-59 were the best bowlers for Edinburgh who in response were bowled out for 238 in 44 overs. Ravi Bridgelall 51, Zaheer Hussain 47 and Riaz Ally 24 were the main contributors.
Young Warriors’ bowling attack were led by medium pacer Reaz Kassim who accounted for half the Edinburg wickets for 59 runs, medium pacer Davendra Ramoutar backed up with 3-44. At the Port Mourant ground, Bermine created a major upset when they defeated the home team by 45 runs. After being invited to bat first by Port Mourant, Bermine found themselves in early trouble at 18-3 before Keon Joseph with an attacking 86 (10 fours) and Leon Williams 33 added a crucial 112 for the 4th wicket. Trenton Henry was the other major contributor with 20 as Bermine reached 211-9 off their allotted 50 overs.
Port Mourant in reply were in tatters at 110-8 before a 54 run 9th wicket partnership between Stephen Latcha and Ganesh Narinedat triggered hope of a come from behind win, but Latcha fell for a well played 59 (4 fours). Narinedat made 16 as Port Mourant were dismissed for 166 in 35.1 overs. Shameer Khan scored 25 (4 fours).
Doing the damage with the ball for Bermine were Troy Mickle 4-43 with his left arm spin, off spinner Andrew Williams 2-33 and Andel De Jonge 2-48.
And over at Albion, the home team brushed aside Police by 8 wickets. Police were bowled out for 172 in 42 overs; Albert Sinclair smashed 80 which contained 9 boundaries and Rawle Scott 49. National Under-15 left arm spinner Gudakesh Motie Kanhai grabbed 3-28, offspinner Veerapen Permaul 2-23 and Satish Dawarka 2-36 for Albion who replied with 173-3 in 38 overs.
K. Surujnarine 72 and Manoj Pooranauth 63 were both unbeaten when victory was achieved as they blasted the bowlers to all parts of the ground.
The tournament has been organised with the main aim of bridging the gap between the Under-19 and first division levels.
The semi-finals will be played on Sunday.
