The Good Hope ferry stelling on the Essequibo Coast will be in full operation within a next two weeks.
Inspecting of the $754M modern ferry stelling were Minister of Public Works and Hydraulic, Robeson Benn and Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Mr. Kellawan Lall.
Permanent Secretary of Local Government Ministry, Mr. Shewchand, and Balraj Balram of the Ministry of public works along with the regional Chairman Mr. Alli Baksh also toured and inspected the new facility.
The government officials witnessed the test run of the new stelling.
The first vehicle that drove off the boat onto the floating pontoon was a heavy-duty truck GLL 7590.
Minister Benn said that his Ministry is facing two major problems with the stelling but that he is optimistic that these will be addressed.
He said that additional works need to be completed on the ramp and on the flotation pontoon that houses the ramp.
He added that the present problems are the main reason why passengers cannot use the facility.
The Minister said that lights would be erected around the stelling compound for security reasons.
Three ferries will be in operation to service between Parika and Good Hope.
The new stelling is expected to reduce traveling time between Parika and the Essequibo Coast by some one hour.
