A mouth watering day of explosive action is anticipated this Saturday when the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) and Guyana Beverage Company (producers of Busta Soft drink) presents the Busta ‘Big’ Bash Second Division 20/20 finals at the Demerara Cricket Club ground in Queenstown.
The event which starts at 08:30 hrs will conclude the GCA 2009 Cricket Programme and three exciting matches, two semi-finals and the final will highlight the day’s activities.
According to the Organisers, the day is expected to be full of fun and entertainment and will terminate an exciting competition which begun in November 2009 and saw the return of many past players who teamed up with young talents to provide some truly entertaining games.
Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC), winner of group A will oppose Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC), runner up in group B in semi-final 1, while Guyana National Industrial Corporation Sports Club (GNIC), winner of group B will come up against Everest Sports Club who finished second in group A in semi-final 2 with the winners of each game scheduled to meet in the finals.
Everest CC who lost just one game in the preliminary stages to eventual group leaders GCC will be led by Andrew Lovell and also included in their line up are Surindra Hiralal, Chris Pattadin, the Pereira brothers, former national player David Harper and youth wicketkeeper Dennis Mangru.
GCC will be led by Paul Bevaun with support expected from youth players Delon Fernandes, W. Hyman and S. Grimes, while GNIC features former West Indies player and current chairman of the WI selection panel Clyde Butts, Guyana youth player Dexter Solomon and the talented Ranole Bourne and the hard hitting Cylus Gibson, who is one of the few players to record a century in the preliminary round of the competition.
Former national player Neil Barry, former junior nationals Sean Holder, Danny Narayan, the explosive opener Troy Lewis, current junior nationals Seon Daniels and Shaquille Mc Nichol Williams will spear head Malteenoes’ challenge.
Finger licking Barbeque, Fried Fish, a well stock bar with products from Ansa McAl, pulsating music and a raffle for hampers donated by Beharry Group of Companies, Ansa McAl and Busta will be part of the day’s activities to cater for the needs of the fans as the GCA seek to make this event a successful and exciting conclusion to another good year for cricket in the city.
Tickets for the barbecue, which will be served with a complimentary beverage of your choice (from Busta or Carib Beer), will be on sale at all GCA affiliate clubs for a cost of $1,000, while raffle tickets will be on sale at the venue.
Admission is free and all proceeds go towards the GCA cricket development fund.
At the presentation ceremony which follows immediately after, Mr. Robert Selman, Country Manager and his team from Busta will be on hand to present prizes.
