Linden/Georgetown Under-23 game also scheduled
Ravens embarrassed Courts Pacesetters last November and the pervasive sentiment in the latter’s camp was that they will have another chance to prove that they are atop the Division I rankings in Georgetown for a reason.
Two months have not passed and that opportunity looms for Courts Pacesetters when the team headlines the opening of the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) 2010 Season at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
They take on old foes Raves in an inflammable encounter that has more to do with them proving a point than the proliferation of the game. The approach from the Courts unit will be one that seeks to erase the November blow-out.
Ravens on the other hand has a clear psychological advantage and with the acquisition of point guard Stephon ‘Penny’ Henry coupled with Rodwell Fortune and Darcel Harris the team will not be too worried about off-season jitters.
Pacesetters will have their work cut out since, as was proven before, the team often choke under pressure. Some of the senior players will have to step up and lead. Royston Siland, Stephon Gillis and Clement Brusche are among those.
An encounter among the best Under-23 players in Linden against the best in Georgetown will precede the Pacesetters/Ravens game, giving a scorching opening to the Season that will open with a March Past of all affiliated clubs.
Speaking to Kaieteur Sport yesterday, Secretary of the GABA, Robert Cadogan said that they are currently in the process of doing the fixture for the event. Additionally, he stated that they are meeting with the National Sport Commission.
According to Cadogan, they will start the Season with or without sponsorship. He said an intense Season is forecasted following the launch of this Division I and III competition. A formal launch for the media will be advertised soon.
Three separate GABA events last year had been postponed owing to lack of funding. But the association is not prepared to let that determine whether or not the sport is played and has decided to forge ahead with available resources.
