Yesterday a group of City Constables along with members of the Police Force descended on Madison Variety at Kaikan Street, North Ruimveldt, in the vicinity of Lamaha Springs and demolished a stall owned by Sharlene Madison.
According to the owner, she had operated the business for well over two decades and had applied for the land on many occasions and visited various ministries to regularise the plot that the business occupies.
At the scene of the incident, Madison’s reputed husband behaved hysterically because of the action taken by the authorities, and was taken into police custody.
According to Sharlene Madison, she owns the land behind the stall and she also has a garden in which she sells her produces at the stall.
Sources indicated that the stall was broken down on four previous occasions, with the authorities stressing that the structure was on the reserve and hindering drainage.
