Dear Editor,
Mr. Ossie Rogers in his article on January 15th called for PPP members “to make their objections public.” I totally agree with him.
He exposed the connivance that is going on in the PPP leadership for some time now.
Those names he mentioned like Moses Nagamootoo and Ramkarran are persons who have indicated their interest in being the Presidential Candidate.
I remember some Party leaders ostracizing Nagamootoo when he made utterances in Rupununi about Dr. Jagan referring to him as a potential Presidential candidate; but when Mr. Ramotar said he is interested those same people remained silent.
Ossie spoke about Mr. Chandarpal and Dr. Anthony being sidelined and marginalised. Seems as if they do not fit in the Jagdeo agenda, who it seems have taken control of the Party, by ensuring that the main leaders of the Party are well taken care of by the state.
Those four members are decent people with strong family ties and are well liked by the ranks of the Party.
The campaign at the last Congress, centrally directed, was intended to bring those very persons down; but they least expect Anthony to come in so high, since they were not concentrating on him but on Ramkarran, Nagamootoo and Chandarpal.
The purpose of Jagdeo and his henchmen and women in the Party was to take control of the PPP Executive by ensuring that they have enough yes men and women who will follow his orders.
I am told that some members of the Central Committee who are in jobs and are paid by the government are routinely called in and told what to do. Fear of losing their material wealth constrains them for taking positions.
Those persons who are being sidelined are strong men with enough history, experience, charisma and public support to take back the Party.
The Party song which we used to sing with fervor “0 Fighting Men” is now being dubbed “0 Frightened Men”.
