Lakram Delima, the 18-year-old who was seriously injured in the Old Year’s Night accident at La Bonne Intention, East Coast Demerara, remains unconscious in the Intensive Care Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital.
But at the hospital yesterday, Lakram’s mother, Sharmila Ramdeo, said that the doctor who is treating her son said that his condition is improving slowly.
Her son is hooked up to a life support machine.
Ramdeo stated that the police have not contacted her to give her an update on their investigation into the accident. She added that since they had denied giving her any information she never returned to the station to enquire.
She said she is unaware whether the police have been visiting her son to check on his condition.
However, the police had stated in a report that checks are made at the hospital periodically to ascertain the teen’s condition. They also informed this newspaper that a report on the accident has been prepared and will be presented to the Director of Public Prosecutions once the Beteverwagting Police Station is finish perusing the matter. Meanwhile, the driver, who resides in England, has been reporting to the police.
The 18-year-old who hails from La Bonne Intention was struck down by a car on Old Year’s Night. He sustained multiple injuries to the body.
On the night of the accident, the teen had left his home to purchase a phone card to call his grandmother in Canada.
He did not return, causing his parents to launch a search in the area. The teen’s parents drove past the accident scene six times before eventually recognising his jersey on the road.
The boy’s mother said she was later informed that her son was struck down by a car and was taken to the hospital by a GDF ambulance where he was admitted.
