-Wife died by drowning
Twenty-eight-year-old Ramesh Moniram, called ‘Bobby’, was yesterday remanded for murdering his 25 year-old wife Sunita August. Moniram, the accused, made his appearance at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Nyasha Hatmin.
It is alleged that on Wednesday January 13, Moniram killed his wife, Sunita August. The charge was indictable and the accused was not required to plead. He was remanded to prison and is expected to make his next court appearance on February 22.
Meanwhile, as Moniram’s relatives were in court to offer their support, Sunita August’s relatives were at the Georgetown Public Hospital Mortuary awaiting the results of the post mortem examination.
The results revealed that the woman died as a result of asphyxiation due to drowning. The woman’s remains have since been handed over to her relatives for burial.
On Wednesday last, Moniram contacted police at the La Grange Police Station informing them that he had just killed his wife and dumped her body at the Nismes koker. He also told them that he had ingested a poisonous substance.
After several hours of searching, police found August’s body. However, Moniram managed to evade police and a search party that included residents of the area, by escaping into the La Grange back lands.
However, just after 15:00 hours yesterday Moniram came out of the back lands, went to family members and asked for food and water, which they gave him. Immediately after, relatives took Moniram to the La Grange police Station.
