Guyanese football referees Dianne Ferreira-James and Nykasie Liverpool will leave for Guatemala to officiate in the CONCACAF U-20 tournament final stage next week.
The pair are also down to perform duties in Costa Rica as well for the CONCACAF U-17 Final Stage in March 10th – 20th.
Following contact with Ferreira-James, she indicated that she has got off to busy start to 2010 with 2 major appointments and she is hoping to be chosen for the FIFA U-20 finals in Germany in the summer and the Youth Olympics in Singapore.
Ferreira-James expressed pleasure to having a familiar face from home to work with, noting, “I am happy to be working with Ms Liverpool as always.”
The leading female official, who is currently domiciled in the Bahamas, is currently back in school and disclosed, “I am presently doing a BBA majoring in Human Resource Management (Omega College/St Thomas University Miami Florida).”
Classes, teaching, coaching her school team and refereeing is keeping her very busy at the moment.
She expressed the desire to officiate at this year’s Kashif and Shanghai Tournament.
Ferreira-James commented on the 20th Edition stating, “Western Tigers winning 2009/2010 is wonderful for the sport as the competition will be open and no team is a clear winner.
This makes it more challenging for the officials as well as the prestige, money, pride and team rivalry.”
“Following the tournament, I read of what was described as betting, which is deadly for the sport, and the security of the officials. This should be done in a way of donation to teams rather than openly at the games. I am happy that correct steps were taken in it’s early stage.”
She offered words of encouragement for new officials on the FIFA list, “Congrats to the new referees on the FIFA List for 2010. Work hard be dedicated determined and open minded. Learn from mistakes of others and yourself but most importantly be humble and subject yourself to be corrected.”
