An unbeaten ton by Derek Ramotar of Floodlights XI helped his team to a 43 runs victory over Enterprise CC when play in the Georgetown zone of the Masters Cup and Females Softball Cricket got underway under floodlights at the Bourda sward on Friday January 9 last. The win is the second in the competition for the Floodlights team.
The eventual winners called correctly and batted first, scoring 255-7 when their 25 overs expired. Ricky Deonarine (39) supported Ramotar. Enterprise CC then lost some early wickets and eventually ended their innings on 212 all out in 24.3 overs.
In the female category the Police team defeated Uitvlugt Angels by 6 wickets after Uitvlugt Angels batted first and scored 133 all out in 14.5 overs. Nicola Grant (66) was the top scorer. In reply, the police made 136-4 in 10 overs with Darlene Gale contributing an unbeaten 64. June Thomas supported with 41.
The tournament continued on Sunday with Police Females returning to defeat Kitty All Stars by 10 wickets. Kitty All Stars XI batted first and scored 77-5 in 15 overs with Chandanie Panday (23) being the top scorer. In reply, the Police made 78 without loss in 7 overs. Joanne Van Sertima (41 not out) and June Thomas (32 not out) piloted the Police to victory.
Kitty All Stars then returned for their second match and defeated Ruimzeight XI by 45 runs.
The former team batted first and scored 146-0 in 15 overs. Tracy Glasgow, with an unbeaten 62 got support from Gangadai Singh, who also remained unbeaten on 77. In reply, Ruimzeight XI could only muster 101-3 in their 15 overs. In matches played in the Berbice zone, Countrywide Champions, # 68 All Stars, defeated Leeds after scores were leveled at the end of the game. The winners were decided by virtue of rule 20 which states that the team batting second must overhaul the first team’s score to win the match.
# 68 batted first and scored 155 all out in 15 overs.
Leeds replied with a similar total, losing 9 wickets at the end of their 15 overs. In other matches, # 69 defeated # 70 by 5 wickets while countrywide finalist, Heavenly Angels defeated Letterkenny by 19 runs.
Meanwhile the fixtures for this weekend are: East Bank XI plays Savage XI on Saturday night. On Sunday, Everest XI opposes Enterprise XI. On January 18 Everest XI and Enterprise XI square off at the Everest Ground. On that same day, at 12.00 noon, Saddam XI plays Park Rangers XI. There would also be action at the Uitvlugt Ground where Uitvlugt XI opposes Shattaville Masters.
