Amir Khan and Sheik Khan both registered centuries in a productive partnership to lead Shattaville to a decisive victory over Surprise Warriors when play in the Carib beer National Softball Cricket Tournament continued over the past weekend at the Leonora Primary School Ground.
Shattaville XI won the toss and batted first, scoring 253-4 in 15 overs. Sheik Khan lashed 110 decorated with 10 sixes and 5 fours while Amir Khan’s century (109) contained 12 sixes and 4 fours. In reply Surprise Warriors XI were bundled out for 57 in 8.5 overs.
Parika/Hydronie SC then made light work of Surprise Warriors, playing in their 2nd match, by 96 runs.
The winners lost the toss and were invited to take first strike and with the help of an unbeaten knock of 49 from Dinesh Lallaram and 34 from Ronald Thorne, compiled a competitive total of 173-6 when their overs ran out. Vickram Kissoon (3-22 from 3 overs) then led the bowling attack and restricted Surprise Warriors to 77 all out in 9.3 overs. Javed Shafeek (16) was the best batsman for the losers. Parika/ Hydronie SC returned later in the day to register their second win over previously unbeaten Hyde Park SC by 23 runs.
In matches played in the East Coast Zone at the Ogle Ground, Hot steppers defeated Keshan XI by 8 wickets after the latter team took first strike and amassed 131 all out in 14 overs. The winners replied with 135-2 in 12 overs. Hot Steppers returned later in the day to register another victory, this time over Rockets XI by 9 wickets. Rockets XI won the toss and batted first scoring 138 all out in 13.1 overs. In reply Hot Steppers XI made 139-1 in 12.3 overs.
The action was not so intense at the Pomona ground in the Essequibo zone as Pomona Scheme SC gained a walkover from Golden Fleece SC, while over at the Reliance Ground, Jaguars XI created a major upset when they defeated previously unbeaten Die Hard XI by 4 wickets. Later in the day United Brothers SC defeated Reliance “A” SC by 14 runs while over at the El Dorado Ground, Affiance “B” SC gained a walkover from Cullen SC. Over in Linden, at the Christianburg Ground, Uprising XI defeated Royal Champions by 7 wickets in the lone match in this zone while in the Georgetown zone, Regal XI advanced by dint of a walkover from Bent Street XI. On the East Bank, Speedboat XI defeated Zahir XI by 4 wickets while Renegade XI defeated Zahir XI by 20 runs.
