‘Bamboo’ charged for having sex with minor

A New Amsterdam barber was remanded for carnally knowing a girl under 15 years old.
According to reports, 28-year old Elroy Trellis, also known as ‘Bamboo’ of St. Magdalene Street, in New Amsterdam appeared before Magistrate Adele Nagamootoo at the New Amsterdam Magistrates’ Court yesterday to answer the charge.
The incident was brought to light when someone informed one of the girl’s relative about what they had observed.
It is alleged that the relative in turn questioned the girl who initially denied it but later admitted.
According to reports, on January 13, the 13-year old had left home for lessons but ended up at a home below the Canje Bridge with the man. After spending some time the couple left the house and went their separate ways.
According to reports, the man and the school girl were seen on several occasions at locations in New Amsterdam, East Canje and even in a car in compromising positions. The matter was reported to police and the man was subsequently detained.
Elroy Trellis is expected to make his next appearance at the New Amsterdam Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
