-ahead of Division I and III Leagues
The Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) will host a meeting with their affiliate clubs ahead of the launch of the Division I and III Leagues that are expected to start with or without sponsorship next weekend.
Secretary of the GABA, Robert ‘Bobby’ Cadogan told Kaieteur Sport yesterday that they cannot afford to wait on securing sponsorship for their programmes because if they do so, they may never run off anything this new Season.
“We will use whatever resources we have to stage our Division I and III Leagues, which we hope will start next weekend,” Codogan said, before briefly outlining the programme to start the Season in Georgetown.
He said that Georgetown’s Under-23 team will take on Linden’s Under-23 squad in an opening battle Saturday with Courts Pacesetters taking on Ravens in a grudge match after the Under-23 game.
Before the games, Cadogan said that there will be a March-Past of teams and the competition is expected to continue Sunday. “GABA cannot afford to give prize money and play indoors at this time,” he moaned.
According to the GABA Secretary, teams will receive replicas and trophies as opposed to the usual prize money because of the absence of sponsorship. Two previous tournaments last year were cancelled owing to lack of funding.
