A man who pleaded guilty to break and enter and larceny after being caught under the sheets with a dog was yesterday sentenced to three years in prison by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.
Sherwin McDonald, 24, between December 14 and January 9, broke and entered the house of Mark Noel and stole a quantity of clothing, one computer modem and a quantity of foodstuff all at a total value of $69,500.
McDonald after pleading guilty explained that he entered the house through the window and used up the foodstuff.
According to Noel, he left for Ituni on December 14 and had previously received a barrel. He said that he returned on January 9, and upon entering his premises, saw the accused wrapped up under the sheets in his bed with a dog sleeping.
“I woke him and he told me seeing that I don’t be at the house he took possession of the property,” Noel said. Noel added “He then told me that he cleaned up the house which had ‘dog dung’ all around and garbage in the kitchen”.
The Police prosecutor intervened and stated that the stolen items were not recovered.
The Acting Chief Magistrate then sentenced the accused.
