Leon ‘Hurry Up’ Moore, who is the holder of several prestigious titles including the North American and Caribbean Boxing Federation (CABOFE) bantamweight titles, is scheduled to fight Indonesian Champion, Marangin Marbun, for the WBA (PABA) Super Bantamweight title at the Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre, tomorrow evening.
Moore’s manager, Carwyn Holland recently made this disclosure to Kaieteur Sport adding that the bout would be the main attraction of a six bout card promoted by Top Rated Boxing, a Bangkok and Singapore based Asian Promotions Company. He further said that the card, dubbed ‘A New Beginning’ is the labeled as the biggest boxing event staged in Singapore. The promoters are anticipating a sold out crowd.
Moore, accompanied by Holland and his coach, Lennox Daniels, arrived in Singapore some two months ago and commenced a stiff training regimen. Holland has since returned to Guyana while Moore and Daniels stayed on in the Asian country preparing for tomorrow evening’s battle.
Holland said that Moore is respectfully regarded in Singapore and the fight is the current topic in that country.
“I’m looking forward to the fight and giving the people of Singapore something to remember,” Moore is quoted to have said. “Marbun is a strong boxer and this will be one of the toughest challenges of my career – but I’m confident that I have the skills, speed and power to beat him inside the distance,” he concludes. He further promises to add this accolade to his bulging collection.
Moore has gratitude to Holland who he said has guided him to his current status in the world.
He is also grateful to the local corporate community for the assistance rendered in his preparations. These include G.T & T, Banks DIH, Twin’s Manufacturing Chemist and Robert’s Jewellery. The young champion singled out Director of Marketing and Sales (G.T&T), Wystan Robertson for his unwavering support.
Meanwhile, Holland has issued a call to the corporate community as well as the Government to support young and upcoming boxers in their quest for international accolades. He said that boxing is the most successful sport in Guyana and the support level should underline this fact. He said that Moore has confided in him that he would win this title and do Guyana proud. In the meantime, Moore has sent a missive to President Bharrat Jagdeo. “I would like my President to know that I will win a world title for my country, the Caribbean and especially the youths of Agricola. He further said that whenever he enters the ring to fight for the world title he wishes to see Mr. Jagdeo at ringside.
Manager Holland is very confident his charge will win the bout handsomely but would not be able to be at ringside due to commitments for his upcoming card “New Year Beatings”. Holland is seeking the full support of the private sector and the government as he is trying to have Moore fight for his world title in Guyana sometime in April or soon after.
