Competition in the Stag Beer sponsored East Bank Football Association (EBFA) division-one league continued on Sunday last at the Grove ground with Soesdyke Falcons turning back the challenge of 2nd placed Kuru Kururu Warriors by the odd goal in three.
The win for the Falcons was their second in four matches while it was the first defeat for the Warriors in four matches with 3 wins. The day’s main attraction saw Yarrowkabra being held to a 0-0 draw by Mocha Champs, both teams squandering numerous scoring opportunities.
This was Yarrowkabra’s first draw in five matches. They have recorded two wins and as many losses in accumulating 7 points. Mocha Champs are on 4 points (1 win; 1 draw; 1 loss).
Soesdyke Falcons, currently 5th in the points standings with 6 points from 4 games, were gifted the lead owing to an own goal in their clash against Kuru Kururu Warriors in blazing sunshine on Sunday. The Linden Soesdyke Highway based side, a single point behind leaders Timehri Panthers (10), drew level two minutes into the second half via a Ryan Scott goal.
The equalizer added more drive to their offensive pursuits and took the game to another level as they sought to ride on the fact that they were placed higher on the table but their position did not intimidate the Falcons who relished the challenge.
It was the Falcons who were to nudge ahead of the Warriors in the 73rd minute. Orin Tasha finishing clinically to hand them the lead and eventual victory even as the Warriors fought gallantly for the equalizer.
Fellow Soesdyke side Timehri Panthers the other unbeaten side in the league are leading the points table with 10 from 4 games (3 wins 1 loss).
