Individuals desirous of learning the ancient art of Karate in the Port Mourant area and its close environs have been afforded the opportunity of doing so, thanks to the Japan Karate Association / World Federation of Guyana (JKA/WFG).
The JKA/WFG launched their 2010 Calendar Year of Activities on Saturday last with the official commencement of classes which would be held every Saturday at the Port Mourant Community Centre, Corentyne Berbice.
Over 30 karatekas, along with parents and supporters from the Main Dojo-National Park, Georgetown, accompanied Sensei Christopher Chaves, Sensei Singh, and Sensei Jennifer Cyrus for the first session.
Highly skilled demonstrations were performed by both adults and children from Georgetown.
Residents of Port Mourant have shown much enthusiasm and interest and have started registering for classes.
The Japan Karate Association/World Federation Guyana was pleased with the venture and Berbicians are encouraged to register for classes. JKA/WF Guyana is extending special thanks to the residents for their kind welcome, National Sports Commission for providing transportation and Mr. Sirikishsun for the use of the Port Mourant Community Centre and all who made the venture possible.
