– Motivational speaker Dr. Myles Munroe coming for event
Starting Sunday, for the first time in Guyana, men will be officially recognized for the critical role they play in the family and society with the observance of National Men’s Week from January 17 – 24. During this period, a host of activities will be undertaken nationwide culminating with a massive rally at the National Park.
National Men’s Week, earmarked by the Men Empowerment Network (MEN) in collaboration with the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security, aims to engage and enable men to effectively fulfil their purpose in building the nation. Some of the activities planned include; a men’s domino competition in Linden, a rally and football competition in New Amsterdam as well as a rally at the Uitvulgt Community Centre ground.
Additionally, a National Leadership Summit will be held on January 22 at the National Cultural Centre featuring world renowned leadership guru and motivational speaker Dr. Myles Munroe. Dr. Munroe has been recognized by a survey conducted by the Gospel Today Magazine as being among the top twenty most influential voices in the world in 2008/2009.
The week of activities will conclude with a massive men’s rally on January 24 at the National Park. Chairman of MEN, Kwame Gilbert, said it will bring together some 15,000 men from all across the country, in a mammoth show of solidarity to the cause of men as builders of their families and nation.
Gilbert further stated that, “This first ever National Men’s Week is geared at mobilizing men in an effort to educate, empower and enable men to take up their responsibilities in ending the scourge of violence, and become change agents and building blocks of society.” He contends that the role that men are called to play in society is irreplaceable and as such when men are not in place, society is thrown into disequilibrium.
The Men Empowerment Network was officially launched on May 25, 2009 in collaboration with the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security, to establish a holistic front in tackling domestic violence.
The Network urges all men throughout Guyana, regardless of religion, race and ethnicity to participate in the week of activities and ensure that they do not miss an opportunity to have their voices heard.
