A man who allegedly stole gold which he was entrusted with was yesterday remanded by the Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.
Navindra Samaroo, 31, of 28 First Street, Alexander Village appeared to answer a charge of fraudulent conversion.
It is alleged that between December 4 and December 8, at Alexander Village, Vishnu entrusted him with 12.5 pennyweight of gold worth $56,250. The allegation continues that Samaroo converted the gold to his own use. Samaroo who was unrepresented pleaded not guilty to the charge and stated that he has made a payment for the gold. Vishnu who was present in court stated that he had received the money for the gold.
However, the prosecutor objected to bail.
The accused was then remanded by the Acting Chief Magistrate and is expected to return to court on Friday.
